From 26 - 28 June, University of Gloucestershire celebrated the close of University Educators for Sustainable Development (UE4SD) project at an event in Gibraltar, drawing colleagues from across Europe and all continents.
University of Gloucestershire led this ground-breaking EU funded project for nearly three years (2013-2016), in collaboration with 53 partners across 33 European countries.
The final UE4SD conference and partnership meetings showcased the launch of its unique online resource for academic professional development in Education for Sustainability. Keynote speakers and VIP panellists joined the event from UNESCO, the UN Conference on Trade and Development, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, the International Association of University Presidents, the Global Universities Partnership for Environment and Sustainability and ministers from the Gibraltar government.
UE4SD has taken up the challenge of building the capacity of university educators to develop their professional practice in sustainability by mapping policy and practice across Europe, developing new resources and piloting a professional training academy process for universities in Education for Sustainability. University of Gloucestershire also led the creation of the online platform of resources. Its Learning for Sustainable Futures scheme was selected by the European panel as one of the 13 best practices chosen from 70 submissions for the UE4SD Leading Practice Publication.
