Estates Facilities have taken a number of steps in recent years to make the University of Cambridge fleet sustainable. These steps include; reducing fleet size, tracking vehicle use, driver training, the development of the Sustainable Fleet Management Policy and the introduction of electric vehicles. Last year alone, these changes have resulted in a carbon emissions reduction of ten tonnes and a saving of 4,000 litres of fuel.

The University’s fleet has also grabbed the attention of the fleet management industry. On 17 November the University was named as the "Public Sector Fleet of the Year (Small to Medium)" at the GreenFleet awards. These awards recognise the best in environmental fleet management and the University beat tough competition from across the country to win the award.

To be recognised in this way is a great honour, but Estates Facilities will not be resting on their laurels as the team are working towards a number of goals, ncluding: 50% of the fleet comprising of electric vehicles by 2021; the development of a driver training course specifically for electric vehicles; and the further progression of the University’s Go Ultra Low status.
