CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Thursday 7th July 2016; Hosted by Canterbury Christ Church University Futures Initiative

It is ten years since Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) first started exploring sustainability and its implications for Higher Education.  Since then much has been achieved and sustainability is now clearly positioned as a University priority.  This conference aims to provide the time and space to come together to:

• celebrate and showcase successful sustainability related activity
• discuss the challenges of engaging with sustainability within a Higher Education context

The conference aims to reflect the values and priorities of CCCU, as articulated in its Framework for Sustainability 2015-2020, as well as the four dimensions of sustainability identified in the QAA/HEA guidance on ESD for Higher Education:

• Global citizenship
• Environmental stewardship
• Social justice, ethics and wellbeing
• Futures thinking

The following types of submission are now sought:

1. Academic research papers (20 minutes total; 15 minutes plus questions)

2. Sustainability showcases – examples of Education for Sustainable Development in practice for informal round table event.  The format is flexible although each successful presenter would be allocated a table, display area and seating.

3. Interactive workshops/tours (1 hour)
Your proposal should be no more than 300 words and you should indicate how it relates to the conference theme articulated in the title.  These should be sent to nicola.kemp@canterbury.ac.uk by Friday 18th March 2016.  After the conference we plan to publish a ‘Conference Proceedings’, with extended abstracts.

The conference will begin with an early evening event in the grounds of St Augustine’s Abbey on 6th July and attendance is free to presenters and participants.

This conference represents the second in a “Sustainability in Higher Education Conference Series” that we are jointly developing with Plymouth University.  For more information please contact either Peter Rands at CCCU (peter.rands@Canterbury.ac.uk) or Paul Warwick at PU (paul.warwick@plymouth.ac.uk)                                                                                            `
