Congratulations to the winners of the Collaborative Awards for Teaching Excellence 2018 delivered by Advance HE.
The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education.

There are great examples of how sustainability and collaboration go hand in hand including:
- Imperial College London - The Imperial Undergraduate Primary Care Education team’s socially accountable vision to make a sustainable difference to society, through its educational Communities of Practice, has generated novel courses incorporating real-world projects. This has enabled a symbiosis to emerge between students acting as change agents, and patients acting as the living curriculum for our future doctors.
- University of the West of England, Bristol - The Knowledge Exchange for Sustainability Education (KESE) team comprises representatives from academic departments across UWE, Bristol. Collectively, they work to progress education for sustainable development through curriculum mapping, staff development, student engagement and celebration. The team is currently using the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to frame their work.
- London South Bank University - A multi-disciplinary team of enterprise educators from London South Bank University (LSBU) successfully embedded enterprise across the university. They have developed and delivered an innovative programme of curricular and extra-curricular activities to support students and graduates to develop enterprising skills for employment, and their entrepreneurial ambitions to start businesses.
- University of South Wales - A unique partnership between University of South Wales and the English Football League Trust, and a distinctive, sustainable collaboration between academics, media experts, club mentors and students enables fulltime undergraduates, studying through a ‘flipped university’ approach, to study and create community impact in their local clubs.
