This conference will stress the imperative for action on sustainability by Scotland’s Universities and Colleges and will examine the corporate responsibilities of the sector to achieve the aims of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development. It will also show how institutions can take action through the new Scottish Principal’s Climate Change Commitment and so contribute to Scotland’s proposed target of 80% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050.

Key speakers include Dr Bill Harvey, Deputy Director, Learning & Teaching, Scottish Funding Council and Alastair Keir, Managing Director of Salix Finance along with Dave Gorman (Head of Strategy, SEPA) Chair of the newly formed Scottish Principal’s Climate Change Commitment Advisory Group.

Workshops:
  • UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development
  • Implementing a Climate Change Programme for Scottish Colleges & Universities
  • Achieving High Performance Estates – The New Guidance
  • Environmental Legislation affecting Colleges and Universities
  • Embedding Sustainability into Procurement Practices

The official launch of the SFC Sustainable Development Guidance for Estate Management will be made and delegates will hear about the successful outcomes of EAUC’s Campus Sustainabilty Programme(CaSPr) including the results of the 2008 State of the Campus Survey.

Based on the outcomes of the first three years of the CaSPr, which was funded by the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council and the then Scottish Executive, the EAUC-Scotland Branch are now beginning a second three year programme for the sector, thanks to further support from the SFC. This conference will present to the sector plans for the next three years.

Anyone with responsibilities for sustainable development and environment working/studying in or with the Further and Higher Education Sector in Scotland should not miss the opportunity to participate in this, the most important sustainability conference for the sector in Scotland.
