Background
Topic Support Networks are free to attend (both for EAUC members and non members) and provide a fantastic opportunity to come together and share good practice, network and gain updates on a specific sustainability subject that is relevant to Scottish Colleges and Universities.
This group meets with ACT Travelwise Scotland, therefore bringing together the FHE sector, NHS, Local Authorities, regional transport partnerships and private sector groups to discuss and share good practice in a move towards sustainable travel.
Event Summary
This meeting will focus on cycling and we have invited speakers from Sustrans and Cycling Scotland to update us on current projects and share examples of good practice which could be implemented at you university or college.Jo Ward, Project Manager at Sustrans will be sharing with us the delivery of the Ucycle Nottingham Project. From September 2009, Sustrans has been delivering a partnership project in Nottingham with the aim to increase levels of cycling, the awareness of the benefits of cycling as well as the opportunities for cycling though engagement with staff and students at the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. In 2011 funding was secured for another three and a half years of the project with three FE colleges joining the partnership. This presentation will be an overview of the projects Successes and Challenges to date. The presentation will include information on the Universities Bike Hire scheme of approx. 600 bikes.
Kate Campbell OBE, Deputy Director at Sustrans will be providing us with an update on campaigns and projects currently taking place in Scotland and letting us know how we can get involved.
