Responding to Climate Change Public Bodies Duties: Scottish Public Sector Sustainability Reporting Guidance – ½ Day Seminar Event

In January this year, the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Stewart Stevenson MSP, wrote to the senior accountable officers of relevant Scottish public bodies to announce the publication of Public Sector Sustainability Reporting – Guidance on the Preparation of Annual Sustainability Reports. The publication supports and complements earlier guidance published by the Scottish Government last year to help public bodies take action appropriate to meeting their duties under the Climate Change Act.

Two national seminars were delivered earlier this year to help public body organisations improve their understanding and awareness of the guidance; and support the preparation of reports. The EAUC, Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council have joined with the support of Carbon Trust Scotland, to deliver this seminar to the tertiary education sector in Scotland.

Who Should Attend

The free event will be primarily of interest to staff engaged in the recording, monitoring and reporting of sustainability, environmental and financial information and key contacts of the Universities and Colleges Climate Commitment for Scotland (UCCCfS).

What will be covered:

A detailed agenda is available below, but in broad outline this ½ day event will comprise presentations from Scottish Government policy makers as well as practitioners to:
 

• Explain Ministers’ rationale and expectations in relation to sustainability reporting, including timetable, context in relation to public bodies duties, and other reporting commitments
• Stress the positive opportunities afforded by sustainability reporting provides
• Highlight best practice in existing reporting and offer practical guidance on preparing reports based on experience
• Explain what support is available and answer specific questions raised by attendees
