As well as the agenda items below, there will be opportunities to network with sector colleagues during refreshment breaks and a buffet lunch in the exhibitor space.

Morning schedule

The conference welcome will be delivered by Billy Currie, EAUC Scotland Convenor and Director of Estates and Sustainability, Dumfries and Galloway College.

The keynote will be delivered by headline sponsors UniGreenScheme.

Across two plenary sessions, Karis Gill will explore how storytelling is your greatest asset in the college and university sector.

Expect real examples from social enterprise, simple frameworks you can use immediately, and fresh ways to tell your impact story with confidence and authenticity.

In this session, we will explore how sustainability can be woven into institutional processes and culture naturally and joyfully. We'll hear examples of engaging staff and students meaningfully in institutional changes with a focus on the teaching community, and there will be space to share challenges and opportunities with each other.

Against the backdrop of new statutory guidance and increasing auditing of institutional action on sustainability, this session will help you gain a clearer understanding of leadership and governance expectations. We will identify challenges and opportunities for improving outcomes relating to sustainability in these areas.

Procurement continues to be highlighted by Scottish government as a priority area for supporting sustainability ambitions. This session will help you gain a clear understanding of how sustainable procurement relates to key legislation and statutory guidance. We will explore examples of emerging and effective sector frameworks and tools to advance positive sustainability outcomes within procurement.

This session will help you create a clear link between wellbeing and sustainability. We will explore how sustainability in learning and teaching can enhance student wellbeing, and how we can support wellbeing in everything we do.

Against the backdrop of new statutory guidance and increasing auditing of institutional action on sustainability, this session will help you gain a clearer understanding of how sustainability relates to financial planning and reporting. We will explore examples of effective practice from across the UK and discuss what this means for our colleges and universities.

Whilst many of Scotland’s research and innovation institutions already have experience of embedding sustainability into research and innovation practices to various degrees, recent drivers such as the Concordat for Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation and statutory guidance are giving this area renewed and strategic focus. Shared learning and collaboration are crucial to support quality research outcomes across different scales. In this session we will hear of the strategic approaches towards sustainable research practices from two universities and explore the challenges and opportunities for increasing regional and national collaborative working and partnerships.

New statutory guidance for public bodies alongside the growing body of publicly available tools and collaborative networks presents a great opportunity for institutional and sectoral momentum in this critical area. This session will help you to understand effective benchmarking approaches to climate risk and adaptation and showcase adaptation action that can be applied in a college and university setting.
