As part of Global Action Plan's work on the Persil Dirt is Good Project, they have developed new research which reveals that while young people are highly compassionate, there is a misconception that these values are not shared by their peers. This means that they take part in less social and environmental action than they would like to for fear of not fitting in– to the detriment of their own wellbeing and their impact on the world around them. The Project has commissioned a white paper which uncovers the widespread misperception that humans are inherently self-interested and highlights how addressing this misperception could be key in efforts to promote and sustain youth action on social and environmental issues and consequently the wellbeing of young people.
The white paper will be launched with an online panel event on 2nd February from 4pm to 6pm, which will bring together academics and thought leaders in the wellbeing, education and environmental fields to explore the role compassion plays in freeing young people up to get stuck into the issues they care about.
