EAUC-Scotland are delighted to be launching the last of our Workbooks to support colleges to embed sustainability within vocational courses at our Education for Sustainable Development Topic Support Network meeting on the 17th April in Edinburgh. Resources from this meeting are now available here.
The Workbooks have been produced through an ongoing partnership project between EAUC-Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway College. They have been developed by Elaine Crawford, who works for the college and specialises in both learning for sustainability and carbon management. Elaine is Convenor of EAUC-Scotland’s Education for Sustainable Development in Further Education Topic Support Network.
The subjects covered by the individual Workbooks are:
Each of these come as a set of two Workbooks, one for students with activities to complete, and a staff version with answers and guidance for delivering the course.
In addition, The Carbon Challenge (already available here) introduces key climate change and sustainability concepts in general language, supporting teaching staff within any curriculum area. This can be used for staff development, so staff can start to consider some of the concepts of sustainability and how they can incorporate them within their teaching. This Workbook is a combination of information and practical activities that aims to showcase the style of the curriculum workbooks, and the types of activities they contain for students to complete. Where curriculum specific workbooks are not available, the activities within this workbook can also be used by students.
All workbooks are designed to be adaptable for different curriculum levels, and without adaptation they are suitable for students studying at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels 4-6. They can also be utilised by staff directly to give them the skills, knowledge and confidence to embed sustainability within their teaching.
The Workbooks can be uploaded toVirtual Learning Environments, and are split into identifiable chapters in a format that makes them easy to adapt into online learning resources.
Copyright restrictions allow for adaptation within any college and uploading to a Virtual Learning Environment, but may prevent sharing of adapted resources beyond your college. Each Workbook details any relevant copyright restrictions – please note due to different funding sources these vary across the series. The intellectual property rights belong to Elaine Crawford who should be cited as the author. Individual queries around this should be addressed to scotland@eauc.org.uk.
We hope you can join us at the Launch!
